------------------------------------------------------------------
The Mahindra XUV700 has caught the attention of almost everyone with its aggressive pricing and feature-loaded cabin. While looks are subjective, most like the evolutionary design while the interior design is all-new.
✅ PRICING: with the MX variant, Mahindra has managed an aggressive entry price for the XUV700 (cheaper than the XUV500 too) which will end up cannabalising Mahindra's own products as well. The top-end variant with AWD will undercut the Tata Safari which doesn't get that option.
✅ PERFORMANCE: Mahindra always prioritises power over efficiency which is amazing and the XUV700 has the speed. The diesel is torquey but if you own a petrol pump, the petrol will please you more with 200 PS giving it amazing acceleration.
✅ RIDE QUALITY: The XUV700 feels stable at high speeds and the ride is plush too. It uses FSD which does help and there is no nervousness on bad roads.
✅ INFOTAINMENT: It's all new and Mercedes inspired but the drive modes do sound a bit funny. Easy to navigate and responsive enough, the touch-screen and its software feel much better than its immediate rival's.
❌ SPACE: The last row doesn't offer much space for adults and with the third row up, the boot is minuscule. The second row doesn't slide and while space is good enough, its immediate rival offers more room and is wider too.
❌ HANDLING & FEEL: Steering feels way too light at low speeds and artificially weighed up at higher speeds. It also lacks the SUV feel and drives more like a sedan which although a good thing, won't please traditionalists.
❌ COST CUTTING: The aggressive price is achieved by cutting costs with hard plastics and some missing features like logo projection, auto-dimming IRVM and ventilated seats (the Merc style seat adjustment has a few dummy buttons too).
❌ NVH & GEAR SHIFT: The diesel engine is loud but so is the petrol. The automatic isn't fast with shifts while the manual has a notchy gearbox and a long clutch travel.
Overall, if I had to recommend this car, I would say 'CONSIDER IT' if you have around Rs. 15-25 lakhs to spend on a new car.
